Clean Agent Suppression Systems

Clean agent suppression systems are used in fire protection to extinguish a fire with the use of gaseous agents. The gaseous agents found in clean agent fire suppression systems are designed to suffocate a fire, or disrupt the chemical reaction. The phenomenon of fire, or combustion, is a chemical reaction of the rapid oxidation of a fuel when reacting with oxygen. Carbon Dioxide, or CO2, is gaseous and used in fire suppression, however the agent is addressed in its own NFPA standard. Clean agent requirements are found in NFPA 2001, Standard for Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems.

The inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM) of fire alarm and signaling systems will start when the system is commissioned, and end when it is removed from service. The National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFPA 72) requires periodic inspections and testing to ensure systems will operate as designed.
